Mr. Penna has been an Apple Pi mentor since 2011, or a little more than a year after he moved his family to Guilford. After seeing the positive impact that the team has had on the community, he knew that he wanted to contribute. He believes that science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) experiences are especially important in today’s hi-tech world, and holds out the hope that his two young sons may become future Apple Pi teammates.
He is a senior design engineer at Covidien, where he is responsible for designing laparoscopic staplers for minimally invasive surgical procedures. In past jobs, he has contributed to the design of cooling equipment for the telecom industry, motorcycle design for the recreational industry and hand guns for the firearm industry. He holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Connecticut, and an M.B.A. from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
